Welcome wonderful youths!

I'm pretty sure you are visiting this blog for a reason. And we know that reason is because you have the ability to make a change in this world as a youth. Or can we?

Youths are undoubtedly one of the most capable group of people in this world. We have the enthusiasm and the will power to do something, in successfully carrying out our objectives. In actual fact, youths are under utilized so to speak. Youths have the ability but it is not being harnessed. The fact is today the world is in a dire need for change. So who can? Youths CAN!

The thing is, we really do have the ability. Once you've engaged in your career path, added on to perhaps your own family, surely you will have less time. Of course I am totally not indicating I am discouraging adults to contribute to charity and spend more time on your family and career, but, if you think about it, we as youths do really have the more realistic opportunity. So why let our ability be of waste?

You must be wondering by now what Youths CAN is all about. Well to begin with, Youths CAN, or in full, Youths Charity Attraction Network is really a network to attract youths to charity. We have the ability, lets not waste it one useless things such as drug. Let me tell you this: we get the feeling of happiness from a hormone called endorphin. Now while you may get this from sports, going out with friends and so on, nothing certainly beats the look of the smile on the faces of those we help. They will be so grateful to you so much so that, to a certain extent, you feel honoured and important. Well, we are important because we can make a change for the world. We have the ability, we are not living in poverty (obviously because if you are, you wouldn't have internet access hence you wouldn't be reading this blog).

We have all learnt fairness and about helping one another in school. Now that we can, why don't we help make the world a better place? Indeed talking about making the world a better place seems to be a far cry, but all great things start from small beginnings. You can start with your country, or as a matter of fact, your own neighbourhood.

The biggest mislead would actually be the misinterpretation of what charity is all about. When we talk about charity, some might think about rich people donating loads of money to a charity and get acknowledged for that. Well that is true, that is certainly the case. BUT! That is not the only case. We have to realise that charity comes in all form. Even helping a blind man cross the street is charity. Even if you want to donate just one ringgit, that is charity as well. Today if you donate even a few sens to Hospis Malaysia, they will still gladly send a you a thank you letter in a nice envelope, all mailed to your doorstep, which may actually cost more than what you donated. But that's OK really. Because, charity foundations are not businesses. It may seem like they would be running on a loss, but trust me, they are never going to say that they will have to ban donations lesser than one ringgit because they loose out from the cost of sending the thank you letter. Every sen you donate goes completely to charity. The running of the charity body however is either supported by a government or another NGO.

Another thing to note here is that charity is not confined to cash donation. Helping those who were affected by the Tsunami rebuild their houses (even if you don't pay for any cost of the material) is still charity. Charity is simply the act of helping others without the expectation of a return. Charity should be sincere and done out of compassion and love. But almost certainly when you are charitable, your names will be written in Heaven and your merits adds up. When we leave this world, we cannot bring along our money or possessions, but the only thing we can bring along is our life merits.

Coming back to the purpose of Youths CAN, the main objective is to increase the awareness of charity among youths and to get youths involved in charity events. If you know of any family or charity homes which needs help, feel free to contact us. Youths CAN is out there to help anyone genuinely in need of help. Because that is what charity is all about: helping anybody in need, especially the ones who are left out in the dark.

To become a member of the Youths CAN network, kindly e-mail your name and your e-mail address to youthscan@gmail.com. The purpose of us needed your contact is to keep you updated on Youths CAN events such as awareness talks and also visits to various charity homes or any family in need and also perhaps helping them with what they need. So if you fancy a weekend off, having a good laugh with your mates while helping a family rebuild their burnt down kitchen or entertaining children at an orphanage for the afternoon or feeding over 200 homeless people, or any other charity activity that pops up, do become a member of Youths CAN.

Once the Youths CAN group grows larger, we will be endorsed by more companies and hopefully be awarded various benefits and be a role model to our community, and especially to the younger ones.  Remember, you can make a change.
